You should appreciate that your choices not only shape your future but also directly or indirectly impact the country’s future. Your influence is substantial. Believe that your actions will affect not just your family's future but also the future of the nation. Remember, you are a builder of the nation, and determination in your endeavors will lead to success in life.
In Nepal, many parents mistakenly believe that the subject choice should be based on examination results, which is a significant error. It is not the results that should guide this choice, but rather your interests. The notion that good results should direct students towards the science stream needs to be challenged if we are to bring about change. Every subject has its own importance, and your interest in a subject will shape your way of thinking. Knowledge helps strengthen decision-making skills in practical life, so choosing a subject you are passionate about and working in that field with dedication will make you a real problem solver. If you are interested in fields such as medicine, innovation, technology, engineering, research, or biology, the science stream could be a great fit for you. Key qualities for success in this area include analytical skills, creativity, and diligence. If you possess these qualities and have a strong interest in these areas, then the science stream could be very beneficial. It offers a broad scope with relatively limited competition, making it easier to showcase your skills.
On the other hand, if your interests lie in corporate life, management, banking, finance, marketing, defense, or related fields, selecting commerce could be advantageous. Key qualities for success in this field include perseverance, hard work, tact, strong communication skills, and a caring nature. Commerce is a widely recognized subject that can lead to diverse career opportunities and can help you explore various paths in life. However, it is known to have more competition but also offers maximum opportunities. If your interests align with the arts, specific cultures, languages, psychology, music, creative writing, dance, acting, sociology, literature, or history, choosing Arts and Humanities could be advantageous. Essential qualities for success in this field include hard work, patience, perseverance, and creativity. It is important to understand that everyone has the potential for success; it depends on how you utilize it in real life. Studying what you are most passionate about will benefit you greatly.
It is not mandatory to choose a specific subject, but it is crucial to understand the scope of the subject you choose, whether you connect with it, and if you have a genuine interest in it. Succumbing to parental pressure will not benefit you in the long run. Parents also need to recognize that every subject has its own value, depending on how you apply yourself to it. Consider the hard work of professionals such as doctors, engineers, scientists, pilots, corporate personnel, government officials, bankers, artists, athletes, and entrepreneurs. Each has their own place in society and contributes equally. If you choose a subject based on your interests and abilities rather than just your SEE or Plus Two marks, you will avoid significant ambiguity in your career path. Reflect on how individuals like Messi would have fared if they had pursued a career contrary to their passion.
