Recently, I attended a public function organized by local governance to gather our concerns and expertise for municipal enhancement. After expressing my concerns and offering constructive suggestions on the patterns of development and the long-term and short-term strategies that the municipality needs to adopt, I was approached by a man in his mid-60s. He asked if I recognized him, which is a common occurrence for me, but I couldn’t place him. I apologized and asked him to remind me where we had met.
He expressed satisfaction at meeting me and mentioned that he felt proud of my work and vision, adding that I had been one of his students in college. I was initially confused, and my mind raced to identify him, but I couldn’t remember, which made me feel disheartened. I reflected on this incident and realized that it was a stark reminder of my role as a student and how I should be more mindful of those who have influenced my life.
As a part-time lecturer myself, this incident was a wake-up call. I recognized that not every teacher is remembered by their students, so it is crucial for teachers to make a lasting impression. This adds another layer of challenge to my own vision as an educator. Reflecting on my school, college, and university teachers, I can remember only a few who truly impacted my thinking and actions. Those who made a significant difference are the ones I am in regular touch with or continue to thank for instilling in me character, confidence, and competence.
Today, I am sharing this reflection not just to wish every teacher a "Happy Teachers' Day," but also to highlight the importance of their role in students' lives. While I cannot speak for others, I know that only a few teachers changed my way of thinking. I recall teachers from my school days who praised and encouraged me, and their words continue to inspire me. Their legacy is immense, and I proudly share my experiences with my peers and children.
Being a teacher is not just about imparting knowledge; it is about inspiring, building confidence, and transforming students. Teachers hold the highest responsibility, and I view them as second mothers, who, like mothers, must care for their students. Today's teachers need to be dynamic, innovative, patient, and dedicated to shaping students' futures. Students seek teachers who can inspire them, relate to their real lives, handle their emotions and failures, and guide them to become leaders.
I still remember my inspiring school teacher, Mr. Ail, who told me in class 4, "Pragyan, you are very smart. You can achieve anything if you push yourself. I have faith in you. No one is perfect; success takes time, and your only competitor is yourself." His words have stayed with me for over two decades, and I still find solace in them whenever I face challenges.
I also recall a Nepali teacher from my school days who never appreciated my efforts. During a parent-teacher meeting, despite positive feedback from other teachers, she criticized my performance in Nepali, which made a lasting impact on me. This experience has made me cautious about the power of words and the importance of encouraging all students, especially those who may struggle.
Therefore, I urge every teacher to recognize their influence and strive to be a source of inspiration and support for all students. Your words and actions have the power to shape their futures positively or negatively. Respect, care, and belief in your students are essential. By transforming your approach to teaching and mentoring, you can make a significant difference in students' lives and contribute to the future of the country.
To all the teachers who have influenced my life and thinking, I extend my heartfelt thanks. Happy Teachers' Day!..

शिक्षकहरूको महत्व र प्रेरणा
हालै म एक सार्वजनिक कार्यक्रममा भाग लिन पुगे जहाँ स्थानीय प्रशासनले नगरको सुधारको लागि हाम्रो चासो र विशेषज्ञता संकलन गर्न आयोजना गरेको थियो। मैले विकासको ढाँचाको बारेमा र नगरपालिकाले लागू गर्नुपर्ने दीर्घकालीन र संक्षिप्तकालीन रणनीतिहरूको बारेमा आफ्ना सुझावहरू प्रस्तुत गरेँ। मेरो समयको पछि, एक ६० को दशकको उमेरको व्यक्तिले मलाई सोध्नुभयो कि के मैले उनलाई चिनेको छु। यस प्रकारको स्थिति प्रायः हुन्छ र मैले धेरैलाई चिन्न सक्दिनँ। मैले उनलाई माफी मागेर सोधेँ कि हामी कहाँ भेटेका थियौं।
उहाँले मसँग भेट्न पाएकोमा खुशी व्यक्त गर्दै भन्नुभयो कि तपाईंको काम र दृष्टिकोणको लागि म गर्वित छु र म भाग्यशाली छु कि तपाईं मेरो विद्यार्थी पनि हुनुहुन्थ्यो। यो सुनेर म केही भ्रमित भएँ र दिमागले तत्काल तीव्र गति लिएर उहाँलाई चिन्ने प्रयास गरें, तर दुर्भाग्यवश सम्झन सकिनँ। यसले मलाई दुखित बनायो र मैले सोचें कि मैले उहाँलाई सम्झन नसक्नु मेरो कमजोरी हो।
यो घटना मलाई एक शिक्षिका र छात्राको रूपमा मेरो भूमिकाबारे सोच्न बाध्य बनायो। मैले बुझें कि सबै शिक्षकहरूलाई विद्यार्थीहरूले सम्झदैनन्, त्यसैले शिक्षकहरूले दीर्घकालीन प्रभाव पार्न आवश्यक छ। यसले मेरो आफ्नै दृष्टिकोणलाई थप चुनौती दिएको छ। विद्यालय, कलेज र विश्वविद्यालयका शिक्षकहरूको बारेमा सोच्दा, मैले थोरै मात्र शिक्षकहरूलाई सम्झ्न सक्छु जसले मेरो सोच र व्यवहारमा वास्तविक प्रभाव पारेका छन्। ती शिक्षकहरूका साथ म नियमित सम्पर्कमा छु वा उनीहरूलाई धन्यवाद दिन्छु जसले मलाई चरित्र, आत्मविश्वास र क्षमता दिनुभयो।
आज, म यो लेख शिक्षकहरूको "शिक्षक दिवस"को शुभकामना दिने मात्र होइन, तिनीहरूको भूमिकाको महत्वलाई उजागर गर्न पनि साझा गर्दैछु। म अरूका लागि के भन्न सक्दिनँ, तर मलाई थाहा छ कि थोरै शिक्षकहरूले मेरो सोचलाई परिवर्तन गरेका छन्। म विद्यालयका शिक्षकहरूको सम्झना गर्छु जसले मलाई सराहना र प्रेरित गरे, र तिनीहरूको शब्दहरूले आज पनि मलाई प्रेरित गर्छन्। तिनीहरूको विरासत ठूलो छ र म गर्वका साथ मेरो अनुभवहरू साथी र सन्ततिसँग साझा गर्छु।
शिक्षक हुनु भनेको केवल ज्ञान प्रदान गर्नु मात्र होइन; यो प्रेरित गर्नु, आत्मविश्वास बढाउनु र विद्यार्थीहरूलाई रूपान्तरण गर्नु हो। शिक्षकहरूको भूमिका अत्यधिक जिम्मेवार छ, र म उनीहरूलाई दोस्रो आमाको रूपमा मान्छु, जसरी आमाले आफ्ना सन्तानलाई हेरचाह गर्छिन्, शिक्षकले पनि त्यस्तै जिम्मेवारी राख्नु पर्दछ। आजका शिक्षकहरूलाई गतिशील, नवप्रवर्तक, धैर्यवान, र समर्पित हुनु आवश्यक छ ताकि विद्यार्थीहरूको भविष्यलाई आकार दिन सकून्। विद्यार्थीहरूलाई प्रेरणा दिने, वास्तविक जीवनसँग सम्बन्धित गर्ने, भावना र असफलता सम्हाल्ने, र नेतृत्वका लागि प्रेरित गर्ने शिक्षकहरूको खोजी गर्दैछन्।
म अझै पनि मेरो प्रेरणादायक विद्यालय शिक्षक श्री एइलको शब्द सम्झन्छु जसले कक्षा ४ मा मलाई भन्नुभयो, "प्रज्ञन, तपाईं धेरै स्मार्ट हुनुहुन्छ। तपाईंलाई सफलता प्राप्त गर्नको लागि आफ्नै प्रयास आवश्यक छ। म तपाईंमाथि विश्वास गर्दछु। कुनै पनि व्यक्ति पूर्ण हुँदैन, सफलता समय लिन्छ, र तपाईंको मात्र प्रतिस्पर्धी तपाईं आफैं हुनुहुन्छ। अगाडि बढ्नुहोस्।" उहाँका शब्दहरूले मलाई दुई दशकभन्दा बढी समयदेखि प्रेरित गरेका छन् र म जब कुनै चुनौतीको सामना गर्छु, तब उहाँका शब्दहरूले मलाई सम्झाउँछन्।
मलाई विद्यालयका एक नेपाली शिक्षकको सम्झना छ जसले कहिल्यै मेरो प्रयासको सराहना गरेनन्। एकपटक अभिभावक शिक्षक बैठकको क्रममा, अरू शिक्षकहरूले मेरो सकारात्मक प्रतिक्रिया दिँदा, उनले नेपाली विषयमा कमजोर भएको बताउँदा मलाई अचम्म लाग्यो। यो अनुभवले मसँग नेपाली भाषामा आत्मविश्वासको कमी राख्न प्रेरित गर्यो।
त्यसैले, म प्रत्येक शिक्षकलाई आग्रह गर्दछु कि उनीहरूको प्रभावलाई बुझ्नुहोस् र सबै विद्यार्थीहरूलाई प्रेरणा र समर्थन दिनुहोस्। तपाईंका शब्द र क्रियाकलापहरूले विद्यार्थीहरूको भविष्यलाई सकारात्मक वा नकारात्मक ढंगले आकार दिन सक्छन्। तपाईंको विद्यार्थीहरूप्रति सम्मान, हेरचाह, र विश्वास आवश्यक छ। शिक्षण र मार्गदर्शनको तपाईंको दृष्टिकोणलाई रूपान्तरण गरेर, तपाईं विद्यार्थीहरूको जीवनमा महत्वपूर्ण परिवर्तन ल्याउन सक्नुहुन्छ र देशको भविष्यमा योगदान दिन सक्नुहुन्छ।
